The first two albums from Icarus Peel have distinct flavours of their own. Tea At My Gaffe is a collection of mainly shorter, idiosyncratic songs with an obviously English flavour. For 65 minutes we are introduced to people such as Mr. Endicott the doughnut maker, Corporal Believeitall who "Went off to the war, determined a hero to be", Mr Tambourine-Kettle with his lovely round face and jingle-jangle eyes and Mrs Peel, who is celebrated as the definitive 60's pin-up with a Small Faces style rave up incorporating the original Avengers music. Acoustic songs jostle with electric and the balance is maintained throughout with a touch of the bizarre and eccentric. And Syd Barrett gets his nod with the affectionate Syd Can't Come.
The Sunflower Army is a slightly different blend. There is plenty of rocking out, as in Pluggin'in and A Quater Of A Million Miles Away, but there is also a slightly more rustic flavour apparent on songs like Fleeting Joys, Cold Wind and The Poacher And His Friend. Moon Madness is an epic twelve minutes of dealing with the manic aspects of the full moon and glides through seven distinct movements. But fear not!!! Full Wierdness service is resumed with The march Of The Ladybirds and Pebble On A Beach. If you dug Tea At My Gaffe you will be quite safe to assume that it is time to pop the kettle on again.....
But why choose? Treat yourself and those you love by buying both. Below are tasters...but the true meat lies within. Details on how to obtain these gems are on the Contact page. |
